The Executive Director, Diamond Bank, Mrs. Chizoba Okoli, has advised firms and individuals to invest in projects that will unleash the creative abilities in children.
She said doing so would motivate children to imagine solutions to some of the nation’s challenges.
Okoli said this on Tuesday during the announcement of the 2017 edition of the Vision of the Child project. The project, which is in its fifth year, is sponsored by Diamond bank in partnership with the Lagos State Government.
According to Okoli, more than 2000 primary and secondary school pupils have benefitted from the programme since 2013, adding that 17 paintings and drawings had been produced by finalists.
She said that the 2017 edition of the programme was designed to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of Lagos State with the theme, Enhance the Heritage, Advance the Future.
“We are happy and proud to be part of the project. This project is about projecting the intelligence of children. It will promote their ability to imagine and create things. These children are the future of our country and what we invest in them today will determine the quality of leaders we will get in the future. Art is part of life and life is art. We want to encourage the pupils to continue to do what they like best,’’ she said.
In her address, the Project Coordinator, Foluke Michaels, said that past winners of the programme were eligible to contest in the project this year. She, however, added that the projects must be related to painting and literary works.
She said, “Every participant would produce a literary piece – essay, story, poem etc – of their choice. Even where the choice is a musical composition, the contestant must still provide a painting or drawing to illustrate aspects of such a composition.
“The 50 past winners are expected to make their creative presentation before a live audience by April 2017. They will go through a series of training, networking and group pairing in the form of a reality show before their final presentation before a live audience.’’
